School trip boosts independence and confidence
Posted: 19th July 2021Independent young children visited a wildlife park to build their confidence.
Pupils in Reception at Roydon Primary Academy visited Paradise Wildlife Park.
The trip, their first without their parents, was part of their work to develop their independence ahead of joining Year 1 in September.
Teacher Enzo Vullo said: “Taking learning outside the classroom is an invaluable experience for the children. This year has been tough to do this, however as soon as the Government guidance allowed school trips, we took the opportunity to visit the amazing facilities at Paradise Wildlife Park. This allowed the children to experience animals, bugs and insects from around the world first-hand.
“The confidence and self-esteem this builds is an important part of the transition to Year 1 and setting them on the path to be independent learners. This trip also develops the children’s curiosity and understanding of the world. The more exposure they have to unique experience, the more exposure they have to vocabulary that provides opportunities for them to discuss and explore ideas with the adults in their life. This multi-sensory approach to learning ensures we continue to deliver the highest possible quality teaching to our pupils.
“Memorable moments like this trip provide unique ‘hooks’ for additional learning back in the classroom. Engagement and enthusiasm is everything in learning. Paradise Wildlife Park is one of my favourite places to take children to achieve this. Nowhere else can a child stand next to real lions, anacondas, goats and more in the same day as meeting a T-Rex.”
