Online Safety
At Roydon Primary Academy, we believe the internet is an amazing tool that can greatly enrich your child’s learning. Today’s world is full of information and technology, and digital tools help us bring our vision for learning to life.
However, with these benefits come risks. Without the right guidance, children might not fully understand the possible consequences of their online actions or behaviour. That’s why it’s so important for every child to learn how to use the internet safely, positively, and responsibly.
Our goal is to help children at Roydon be just as safe and confident online, both in school and at home, as they are in the real world. To support this, we’ve put together a variety of resources to help you teach your child about online safety. We encourage you to explore these resources yourself first so you can focus on topics most relevant to your family.
At school, we use a program called 1Decision to teach online safety through our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) curriculum. This award-winning resource covers important areas such as:
-
Staying safe online
-
Understanding feelings and emotions
-
Being responsible
-
Growing and changing
-
Staying healthy
-
Preparing for the working world
If you have any questions or want more support with online safety, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help keep your child safe and confident in the digital world.

Meet Deedee and Darlee. They help guide the children in school through different scenarios encouraging them to make the right decision. Through videos and discussions, children are encouraged to share their feelings and discuss the best ways to stay safe.
Key Stage One E-Safety Learning Journey
The KS1 Computer Safety module helps children to understand the golden rules for staying safe online, how their online activity can affect others, and how to identify other positive and negative aspects of using technology. Pupils will explore the potential outcomes for online bullying, sharing images, and making friends online with people who they do not know. They will also be introduced to a supporting network of helpful organisations.

Key Stage Two E-Safety Learning Journey
The KS2 Computer Safety module offers the perfect opportunity for pupils to deepen their understanding of the negative and positive aspects of using computers and being online, including laws that have been created to protect us. Throughout this module, children will gain the skills and knowledge to enable them to cope in the media generation. The video topics cover image sharing, online bullying, and making friends online. Pupils will also have the opportunity to create their own documentaries on computer safety.
