Graffiti artist makes library the place to be
Posted: 13th February 2019How can reading ever be boring with a library like this?
Roydon Primary Academy prides itself on having a reading culture and doing all it can to encourage children to read for pleasure.
Year 6 reading leaders – chosen as ambassadors to encourage peers to read – decided the library needed to have a makeover to reflect its importance in the school.
A graffiti artist transformed the space, adding images of children’s favourite book characters, such as the BFG, Gangster Granny and Harry Potter, onto the walls.
Headteacher Michael Clark said: “Reading is massive at Roydon. We have a strong reading culture and the library is a big part of that. We want the library to be a place where children choose to go to. It was, therefore, lovely that the idea of decorating the library came from our children.
“We have worked hard with our parents and PTA to build up an impressive collection of books and a library that is a comfortable place to be.
“A school library should be a place children look forward to going to and enjoy being in. These beautiful walls have certainly given it the wow factor that makes children want to talk about it.
“Our library is now a real focal point.”
