The donation of computer equipment has enabled our school to launch a specialist club.

Roydon Primary Academy is on a mission to give its pupils the best experience in technology.

Job website Indeed has donated ten laptops to the school which means it has been able to launch a brand-new after-school code club.

Teacher Enzo Vullo said: “I was keen to start a code club at Roydon, but we did not have the ICT equipment to do this. I reached out to the Code Club who put me in touch with Indeed who very kindly donated ten Macbooks.

“Coding is an important skill to have. Our code club will ensure our pupils are able to contribute to the digital world we live in. It’s a brilliant way for children to learn coding; I think every school should have a code club.”

Headteacher Michael Clark said: “I am delighted Mr Vullo managed to secure these brilliant devices for our school.

“ICT equipment is something we are trying to improve on at Roydon this year and these will allow us to offer a code club to upper Key Stage 2.

“I cannot wait to see the children using them.”

The donation comes after the school paired up with fellow BMAT school BMAT STEM Academy, in Harlow, to give pupils ICT lessons in the specialist technology school.

To improve lessons in computer skills, the whole ICT curriculum is being taught at the school which specialises in STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths.

Laura Spring, deputy headteacher at Roydon, said: “Having the opportunity to work at BMAT STEM Academy is a great experience for our children. They are able to learn new ICT skills using excellent facilities.

“Their excitement when they realised that each computer had two screens was a joy to see and, by the end of the day, they were confidently using both to complete their learning.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the children and we are grateful to BMAT STEM Academy for allowing us to learn there.”
