Roydon Visit the BMAT STEM Academy
Posted: 19th October 2018Over the past half term our pupils have had the opportunity to have their ICT lessons taught in a specialist technology school.
In an effort to improve lessons in computer skills, Roydon Primary Academy, has teamed up with fellow BMAT school BMAT STEM Academy, in Harlow.
Now, the whole ICT curriculum for Autumn Term will be taught to the children in the specialist STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths – facility.
Headteacher Michael Clark said: “Over a period of five weeks, each class from Roydon will go along to BMAT STEM Academy to cover their ICT curriculum. In the primary curriculum, we cover topics such as word processing, Power Point, Publisher and e-safety.
“We are looking to spend the year fundraising for our own ICT suite at Roydon, but in the meantime we want to give our pupils the best possible learning experience with regards to ICT and we can do that at BMAT STEM Academy.
“Our pupils will have a whole day of high-quality ICT lessons, which will cover the curriculum for the term.”
Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 will have one lesson per term to cover their curriculum, while Year 1 and 2 will be able to complete their curriculum for the year within just one day.
Mr Clark said: “This will be amazing.
“It is a really good example of us making use of the resources available to us within the Trust. We are a small school which does not have the same resources that bigger schools have. But, BMAT STEM Academy is happy to share their resources with us.”
A special thank you has to go to Mrs Turner, our ICT leader, who took the time to teach sessions to all the year groups. The children have made some incredible progress during these days and we hope this will continue at the STEM and eventually we get our own ICT suite at Roydon.
