Roydon Primary launches childcare provision

Roydon Primary launches childcare provision

Posted: 23rd September 2019

Working families are now able to leave their children in the safe hands of their school until teatime.

Roydon Primary Academy has launched an after-school childcare provision in support of working parents.

Hedgehogs is open to pupils in Reception to Year 6 from 3.15pm until 5.30pm each day and offers a range of educational and fun activities.

Staffed by the school’s staff, the club enables children to be looked after in familiar surroundings by people they know well.

Headteacher Michael Clark said: “Children who attend Hedgehogs have full use of the school facilities, including the library, computing suite, field, adventure trail and table tennis tables. They have the option to take part in various games, as well as arts and crafts activities, gardening and cooking.

“Any children who may be a little behind with their reading get the opportunity to do extra during Hedgehogs and so they are getting further support each day.

“The children are safe as they are with people they know and trust on a site built for primary aged children. Parents can be confident that when they drop their children at school in the morning, they are being looked after until whatever time they can get here to collect them.”

The club mirrors the successful breakfast club which was launched last year at the school and sees about 30 pupils attend each day.
